Delivering professional-quality, fully-interactive 360° images for your business

An ardent digital-photography enthusiast, I’ve followed the progress of 360° photography with growing interest. To me it represents the perfect method for capturing and demonstrating premises, resources, or scenes whilst also allowing people who, like myself, will often familiarise themselves with a business or place before making contact or a special journey. I am now incredibly excited to provide this same service which I originally set out to achieve for my own music production studio. Companies such as Facebook and Google’s continual support and investment in 360° imaging means that this is fast-becoming the go-to tool over traditional video and imagery for marketing purposes.

My aim is to provide the same stunning, eye-catching, and immersive imagery that has continually impressed me since its conception. These images can be added to Google Places and Street View for the ever growing community of users who rely on these services and on your own website as we see throughout this page. These images garner huge numbers of views, and it’s a brilliant way to stand out amongst the sea of images we find on social media/online. Countless situations and scenes can be beautifully captured, from shops, gyms, bars, and restaurants, to outdoor spaces, venues, museums, real-estate, exhibition spaces, and beyond.

Google Trusted 360° Photographer

I’m proud to be an accredited Google Trusted 360° Photographer. In order to gain Google ‘Trusted Photographer’ accreditation and become one of their ‘Available to Hire’ professionals, one must capture and deliver a minimum number of images all of which meet Google’s format and resolution requirements along with a number of other important prerequisites.

Image Quality

I shoot multiple ‘bracketed HDR’ images on a DSLR coupled with high quality optics which, once stitched together, result in crystal-clear 96.5 Megapixel images. 360° images often contain stitch-line errors, missing sections, or other undesirable artefacts, however these can ruin an otherwise perfect scene and will likely mean failure to pass Google’s acceptance. For professional-grade images this is of course unacceptable, and so I ensure that these issues never arise or are at very least minimised to near-invisible levels in the case of unavoidable environmental occurrences during shooting.

Adding Branding

The best way to to do this is by adding a circular logo at the nadir or ‘base’ of the image which the viewer sees when looking downward. In many 360° images this region (and often the zenith, or ‘top’) of the image are ‘patched over’ to mask holes which weren’t captured. I prefer to photograph these regions separately wherever possible for a truly professional finish – it’s also more engaging for the viewer and gives a very effective sense of ‘floating’ in the scene, especially when experienced in VR. The area at the floor is however ideal for branding, and complies within Google’s regulations regarding use of branding in 360° images. I can assist in creating or implementing your logo or message for this purpose.

Can the images be used in other ways?

Thanks to the extremely high resolution of my images, standard-aspect pictures can also be created from the full panoramas. At the top of this page you’ll have spotted the ‘planets’ where a 360° photograph has been transformed into a spherical image. I think these are some of the most intriguing images I see today. They are most effective when created from outdoor panoramics, with lots of sky above. With considerate framing however, interiors can still render incredibly striking images which can be used very effectively across websites and social media e.g. Instagram which isn’t currently 360° compatible. Even more interesting perhaps is the potential for over-capture video as demonstrated in the short clips below.

Virtual Reality

This is where 360° photographs really come in to their own. On devices such as the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Samsung Gear VR etc. the images can be viewed completely immersively, allowing the viewer to look around the room or scene as if they were there themselves. I have a dedicated high-spec VR PC setup along with Oculus Rift and Gear VR devices for demonstration if you haven’t had the opportunity to experience it for yourself and are interested to see how it can benefit your business. Basic VR devices often come bundled with some smartphones and so VR is very relevant and definitely to be harnessed (and enjoyed!)

Where are you able to shoot?

Utilising high quality carbon fibre and aluminium Manfrotto stands and tripods, my photographic rig has been designed such that it can be carried entirely in one camera bag, allowing me complete freedom. I also use heavier C-stands where substantial height is required but with additional stability. The same specialist panoramic head I use in order to shoot these panoramic images was even chosen by Nasa to be used on the International Space Station though I’m yet to test it at such altitudes myself.

How long does it take?

Coupled with experience and practise capturing images in real-world situations with minimum disruption and fast-to-deploy equipment, a single image can potentially be shot within mere minutes. For busy locations with lots of foot traffic I can of course be at locations outside of public opening hours. Populated images can also be shot however to demonstrate popularity and I have a few tricks up my sleeve in order to capture such scenes whilst retaining anonymity for any individuals present whilst shooting. After the shoot, the images are then individually stitched together using proprietary software (and skill), ready for the chosen outlet.

Is this expensive?

My rates are guaranteed to suit your budget and remain competitive without devaluing the quality of the product or service itself. I am especially keen to help fellow local and small businesses enjoy and benefit from these assets – simply get in touch to see what we can achieve together.

Freelance image capture

Perhaps you yourself run a 360° imaging business and require additional shooters for virtual tours etc. in which case please do get in touch. I pride myself on reliability and professionalism and would welcome the opportunity to capture exciting images and scenes which I might not otherwise have the opportunity to!
